About PIRL

Building a Professional Stage for Indian Relay

A startup nonprofit league formed to organize and elevate Indian Relay Racing — with Native culture, families, and horse relatives kept at the center.

Who We Are

A Nonprofit Built for the Sport

Professional Indian Relay League is a startup nonprofit league platform formed to help organize and elevate Indian Relay Racing through professional standards, stronger events, media-ready production, sponsorship development, and community-centered growth.

Why We Exist

Our Mission

PIRL exists to serve the sport, honor the culture, and build a platform worthy of the athletes who carry it forward.

Protect the Culture

Keep Native culture, families, and horse relatives at the center of everything PIRL does.

Promote the Athletes

Give riders and horsemen a professional stage and the recognition they have earned.

Strengthen the Teams

Build unified standards, safer competition, and a real pathway for the best teams in North America.

Grow the Sport

Introduce the world to Indian Relay through media-ready events and responsible expansion.

Leadership

Founder & Vision

PIRL founder Shawn Howard brings experience at the intersection of Indigenous culture, equestrian performance, film, television, stunt production, live entertainment, and sports storytelling. The leadership vision is to build a professional stage for Indian Relay while keeping Native culture, riders, families, and horses at the center.

Structure

Governance

PIRL is being structured with a smaller voting board, officers, committees, advisors, and a nonprofit parent framework designed for mission-first governance and responsible expansion.

The race lasts minutes. The impact can last generations.
